* This is a typical intro to an old folk Vietnamese song, specifically referring to The Tale of Kieu. In this genre, the intro usually has nothing to do with the lyrical content of the song, but acts as a signifier of the genre itself.
** Lemons and peaches are widely used metaphor for young ladies in Vietnamese culture
*** This line is repeated in the song multiple times as an exaggeration. The song is a playful flirt between a group of guys and girls and this exaggeration shows the pressure of marriage for Vietnamese ladies.
**** Blackened teeth were considered fancy and beautiful in Vietnamese culture, much like how it was also practiced in Japan, Malaysia and China. The custom is beneficial as prevention of tooth decay, thus, was considered as healthy and alluring.
